As part of Wuhan University’s efforts to expand and deepen exchanges and cooperation with UK institutions of higher learning, the university’s vice president, Yuan Yufeng, recently led a delegation to the UK. The September 29 to October 3 trip included visits to Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and Loughborough University (London Campus).
WHU Vice President Yuan Yufeng and QMUL Vice President Helen Bailey sign a cooperation agreement
During the visit to QMUL, Vice President Yuan Yufeng and QMUL’s Vice President Helen Bailey signed an agreement on student joint training and exchanges, marking the formal establishment of cooperative relations between the two universities. Looking back over the history of exchanges between the two universities, Yuan Yufeng said that QMUL was an important partner of Wuhan University for exchange and cooperation with the UK. He hoped that the signing of the agreement would serve as a new starting point, encourage exchanges between the two universities, and promote further cooperation in a wider range of fields and at a higher level. Bailey warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed her delight at establishing formal relations with Wuhan University shortly after her election as vice president of international affairs. She also looked forward to future cooperation between the two universities. During the visit, the delegation agreed to promote talent development and research cooperation with the Medical Department, the School of Finance and Management, and the Department of International Affairs.
The delegation visits Loughborough University (London Campus)
During the visit to the London Campus of Loughborough University, the delegation met with John Downey, associate vice president of Loughborough University and Aidan McGarry, head of its London campus. Yuan Yufeng said that this visit was a follow-up to Professor Downey’s visit to Wuhan University in July of this year, which fully reflected the importance our university attaches to cooperation between the two universities. There was already a good basis for teacher exchanges and the next step would be to combine respective characteristic, strengths and areas of interest, identify entry points, and make project collaboration a starting point for the promotion of further cooperation and exchanges. Downey recalled his visit to Wuhan University two months ago and said that Wuhan University had various strong disciplines and rich experience in international exchange, providing an important guarantee for the two universities to innovate models of cooperation. The two universities could strengthen cooperation in areas such as joint student training and sustainable development. Throughout the visit, the delegation discussed interdisciplinary research cooperation and joint bachelor’s and master’s programs with relevant people in charge of the Digital Technology Research Institute and the International Affair Office.
The delegation, which included representatives from Wuhan University’s Economics and Management School, School of Journalism and Communication and Office of International Affairs, was also invited to visit the Royal College of Surgeons and University College London.
